Anna Sophia Defant is a pianist, improviser, singer and composer who originally comes from Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer (Salzburg) and studied piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw).

Her musical development has taken her from classical to contemporary music and avant-garde jazz to free improvised music. Most recently she has collaborated with Christian Reiner, Kenji Herbert, Jakob Gnigler, Michael Prowaznik, Raphael Preuschl, Bernhard Hammer, Isabella Forciniti, Franz Hautzinger, Flora Geißelbrecht and Raphael Schuster. She has released an EP with the duo søch on the label JazzWerkstatt Records and is currently working on further productions with her new project s:e. She also contributed to the album 'Blood Be Fluid' by the two London artists Julia Romana and Veronika Hanl.
In her improvisational ensemble work as well as in her compositions, she places value on chamber music structures as well as clear and straightforward phrases that are developed out of the situation and often suddenly transition into strangely intimate spheres.
